The Mitra Group is a hotel chain that operates across India. But it was here in Kolkata that it all started. It began as a hotel built by Sir Girindra Mohan Mitra almost 120 years ago. It provided an 'oasis' for weary travelers, merchants, pilgrims, and soldiers. Cheap food, entertainment, and security were guaranteed for the customers. Today, the old heritage building has been razed, and in its place, modern architecture has been erected. Namrata (30), the scion of the Mitra family, is next in line to join the Board of Directors. But, as tradition dictates, Namrata must prove her worth by being the General Manager of the Kolkata hotel for at least a year. From the get-go, Namrata plans to sell the Kolkata branch, as profit-wise, it barely breaks even. The Goa branch offers water sports, lively beach parties, and other attractions, while the Manali branch provides exciting activities like rafting and paragliding, making them profitable ventures. But Kolkata, in her eyes, is a dead city now. It's better to sell off this property. However, these decisions can only be proposed once she becomes a member of the Board. Right now, Namrata is worried about something else. The next day, a group of investors is scheduled to visit, and she must present her strategy for managing the Kolkata branch. Namrata is about to retire for the night but is restless. It's best to go through the presentation one last time. She heads to the conference room alone and starts reciting her speech. However, an elderly, rather anglicized gentleman in the room keeps criticizing her speech. Annoyed by the trespassing, Namrata calls security to have the man removed. To her surprise, security insists she was alone in the room. Namrata attributes this to excessive stress. The next day, while giving the investors a tour of the hotel, Namrata faints in front of a portrait of the founder, Girindra. It turns out to be the same man she had encountered in the conference room the previous night. Namrata's troubles intensify when the ghost starts playing pranks on the guests of the hotel. The situation worsens when her father threatens to demote her, believing she might not be ready to be the GM yet. Finally, Namrata has a face-to-face conversation with the ghost of Girindra. As it turns out, Girindra does not have a personal vendetta against Namrata-she is his blood, after all. He is angry that the new generation has forgotten why The Retreat was built in the first place. Providing comfort and hospitality for weary travelers has been ignored in favor of monetary profit. Eventually, Girindra and Namrata strike a deal. If Namrata can personally bring happiness to the lives of the hotel's saddest guests, Girindra will leave forever. She will then be free to do as she pleases with the hotel. Namrata takes up the challenge. She shortlists four candidates: a married couple who cannot stand each other anymore and are at The Retreat on their marriage counselor's advice, a popular influencer who does not have a single person she can call a friend, the hotel's pianist who is frustrated with his job, and a mysterious figure known as Agent A Square. With a mixture of rigid determination and Girindra's ghostly magic, Namrata starts transforming their lives, reshaping their paths in ways she believes will bring them happiness. However, Girindra has a condition. Is her plan foolproof? He wants Namrata to wait a year. If she has truly changed their lives, The Retreat will become special to them, and they will return. Namrata is certain that when they do, their frowns will have turned into smiles. But Girindra has a feeling that Namrata's profit-and-loss approach to life isn't always accurate.
